Chlorite is mostly the product of alteration of pyroxene, amphibole, biotite, etc. Iron rich chlorite mainly occurs in sedimentary iron ore. Oolitic chlorite formed by marine sedimentation can be used for iron ore mining if it reaches the industrial utilization index. There are as many as ten kinds of chlorite. The chlorite containing chromium ions is called chrome chlorite, which is purple in color. It can be used as a handicraft and decoration. The chlorite is very similar to mica, but the former is characteristic of green, flexible and inelastic. A special 2:1 water bearing layered aluminosilicate mineral, which is one of the main clay minerals.
